The Institute of Museum and Library Services has awarded a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grant to the Center for Digital Literacy at Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies to support Project ENABLE. Project ENABLE (Expanding Nondiscriminatory Access by Librarians Everywhere) is a collaborative endeavor with the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University.
The $237,973 grant will expand Project ENABLE, which provides a comprehensive continuing education program for school librarians to help them better serve the library and information needs of K-12 students with disabilities. During summer 2013 twenty new teams of general educators, special educators, and school librarians will collaboratively study disability awareness, school disability law, evaluating library program, service and facility accessibility, planning inclusive library skill instruction, and creating an inclusive, school wide library program that effectively serves all children. Additionally, the funds support greater outreach of the Project ENABLE curriculum to school personnel nationwide through online, self-paced learning (launching Fall 2012).
