Session 1: Online Learning Strategies/ Transition to College

Wednesday, October 21, 2020 3-4 pm    | Facilitated by OPC Staff

This informative session will begin with introductions of staff followed by instruction in online learning strategies to improve success in a remote environment. Students will be exposed to some differences between high school and college and how to adjust. Session schedule will be shared for future planning.

Session 2: Career Pathways

Wednesday, November 4, 2020  3-4 pm  | Facilitated by Career Services and OPC Staff

Students will learn about the necessary skills to be successful on the job and how to improve their ability to build and communicate their strength.  In addition, students will learn about the importance of being involved with a variety of work-based learning experiences, whether it be a job, internship, job shadow, or campus employment, before and during college to access their dream career!

Session 3: College Planning

Wednesday, November 18, 2020 3 -4 pm  | Facilitated by Jay Harrison, Asst. Director of OAR and OPC

Students will learn about the necessary steps they must take to enroll in college, what action steps they should begin to think about, including FAFSA, housing applications/accommodations, transportation, and placement testing.

Session 4: Disability 101 and Self-Disclosure

Wednesday, December 2, 2020  3-4 pm | Facilitated by Nancy Carr, Director of OAR, OPC, and Testing Services

Students will feel comfortable addressing disability and use language that creates positive images of people with disabilities. They will also discuss the benefits of disclosing their disability early in their college experience, and how taking advantage of all available support services is associated with college success.  The process of receiving testing and other accommodations in college will be covered as well. Discussion about changing laws and government services will be conducted.
