Project Overview
Competitive, Integrated Employment, Post-Secondary Education, and Community Living Outcomes for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are alarmingly poor when compared with their peers without disabilities. These ongoing challenges and negative outcomes are symptomatic of and the inevitable results from a fragmented transition system, with little-to-no integration across schools, vocational rehabilitation, workforce agencies, postsecondary education institutions, and Long Term Supports and Services (LTSS) providers. As a result, adolescents with ID/DD and their families face a near-constant struggle to identify service providers, find funding streams, and set up supports
The Syracuse University Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) is collaborating with the Kansas Self-Determined Transition Employment Partnership (K-STEP), led by the Kansas University Center on Disabilities, to develop and implement plans and projects designed to increase competitive integrated employment, successful postsecondary education, and independent living for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Goals and Objectives
- Collaborate with K-STEP partners as appropriate to identify and develop plans and projects designed to increase competitive, integrated employment, postsecondary education, and independent living outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Consult with K-STEP partners as needed to develop agendas for task force meetings and contribute to task force meetings and outputs. As appropriate, provide information and consultations to partners in the project on collaborating and coordinating transition services for pilot projects.
