Dr. Delia Ferri, Lecturer at Maynooth University Department of Law (Ireland), joins the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University as a fellow
Delia teaches and researches in the fields of EU Law and in International and European Disability Law and Policy. She has published on disability law in various academic journals and authored a number of reports on disability policy. She has been involved in a number international project and community engagement activities to advance the rights of persons with disabilities.
Dr. Delia Ferri is a Lecturer in Law at Maynooth University Department of Law, where she lectures primarily in the fields of EU law and International and European Disability Law. She is a member of the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute, and a fellow of the Maynooth Centre for European and Eurasian Studies. She coordinates, in conjunction with Prof. John O’Brennna, the Jean Monnet Summer School “EU and Human Rights in a Time of Crises” funded under the EU Erasmus+ Programme.
Delia is an affiliated researcher at the Dirpolis Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Italy) within the research cluster on social rights, social inclusion and disability. In addition, she is a qualified lawyer (Avvocato) member of the Italian Bar since 2008, currently enrolled in the Special Roll for full-time academics.
Delia holds a J.D. in Law (Laurea Magistrale in Giurisprudenza), awarded 110/110 magna cum laudefrom the University of Verona School of Law, a LL.M., awarded First Class Honours with Distinction, from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), and a Doctorate in Italian and European constitutional law from the University of Verona (Italy). She has a Diploma in European Union Legal Practice from the Central European University (Budapest, Hungary), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (PGDHE) from Maynooth University (Ireland).
Delia has taken part into several research projects and EU-funded studies in the field of disability law. Among many others, she participated in the “Study on Challenges and good practices in the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” (2009), in the study on the “Implementation by the EU of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020” (2012). In 2013-2014, she was Lead Researcher of the “DISCIT Project – Work Package 7 on accessibility and accessible technology”, at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy of NUI Galway. In 2016, she co-authored with Prof. Anna Lawson the report on “Reasonable accommodation for disabled people in employment” for the European Commission. She also acted as contributing author of the report “Estudio sobre el balance de la aplicación en la Unión Europea de la Convención sobre los derechos de las personas con discapacidad a diez años de su aprobación por Naciones Unidas, en el marco del Programa Operativo de Inclusión Social y Economía Social 2014-2020 (POISES)”, managed by the University Carlos III of Madrid and Fondacion ONCE.
Dr. Ferri has authored several academic publications, including a monograph, focusing on the rights of people with disabilities, participatory processes, and cultural diversity.
