The Southeast ADA Center – a project of the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University – welcomes Stacey Kernisan as the new ADA Distance Learning and Training Coordinator. With an extensive background in instructional design, digital learning technologies, and inclusive education, Stacey brings a forward-thinking approach to advancing the center’s mission of increasing knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and supporting equitable access.
Stacey joins the Southeast ADA Center with over a decade of experience leading learning and development initiatives across public and private sectors, including roles at BigBear.AI, George Washington University, and Mid-Atlantic ADA Center. Most recently, she served as an Adjunct Professor at Morgan State University, where she fostered inclusive learning environments and utilized technology-enhanced teaching strategies.
Stacey holds a Doctorate in Adult Learning & Workforce Development from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and a Master’s in Adult and Continuing Education from the University of Phoenix. She strongly advocates for equal opportunity in learning environments and is pursuing certification as a Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD).
In her new role, Stacey will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative distance learning programs that empower individuals, businesses, and communities to understand their rights and responsibilities under the ADA.
In her personal time, Stacey enjoys traveling, crafting, and spending time with her family and friends. She is also an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She also serves as a Council Representative on the Nominating Committee of the Board of Trustees of Montgomery County Community Colleges in Maryland.
“I am honored to join the Southeast ADA Center and contribute to a mission that aligns so closely with my passion for equitable access and lifelong learning,” said Stacey. “I look forward to collaborating with stakeholders across the region to deliver training experiences that are engaging, inclusive, and impactful.”
