Marcia Scherer, Ph.D.
Project Director

Marcia Scherer, PhD, MPH, FACRM, President of the Institute for Matching Person and Technology, Editor of Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology, and Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester Medical Center currently serves as Co-PI for the Center on Effective Rehabilitation Technology at BBI. Dr. Scherer has over 20 years of distinguished activities as a researcher, educator, evaluator and developer of new tools and methods to improve awareness of, access to, and favorable outcomes from assistive technology. Dr. Scherer has a Ph.D. in Family and Work Life Studies from the University of Rochester and a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from State University of New York at Buffalo. She is the author of Assistive Technology in the Workplace (2007) and the editor of Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology, a journal of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. As founder and Director of the Institute for Matching Person and Technology Inc., Dr. Scherer has established partnerships with rehabilitation and technology experts in the US and internationally. Dr. Scherer has developed successful empirical measures and tools to facilitate effective matching of individuals with disabilities with AT and other technologies that match their needs. Dr. Scherer is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology and in Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics. Dr. Scherer is also a professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Her distinguished academic career also includes teaching in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at the State University of New York at Buffalo and at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
