
Anthony Adornato, a Central New York native with more than a decade experience in the public relations, journalism and digital media fields, is Director of Communications for the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University.
Adornato is responsible for the creation and implementation of the Institute’s strategic communications plan as well as multiple communications activities across BBI’s offices in Syracuse, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at SU’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Utica College.
He previously worked at Colgate University, where he served as manager of media communications from 2007-2010. During his tenure, Adornato was successful at elevating the university’s presence through traditional and new media channels. In addition to managing the school’s media relations outreach, he served as spokesperson, planned major campus events, and coordinated digital media projects, among other duties.
Before making the transition to public relations, Adornato was an anchor and reporter for six years at WSTM-TV, the NBC affiliate in Syracuse, NY. While at WSTM-TV, he anchored the market’s top-rated morning news broadcast and was the station’s lead reporter on many of the region’s major stories. He has also held anchoring, reporting, and producing positions at stations in Utica, NY and Watertown, NY.
He is an alumnus of the Newhouse School and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in media management through an executive program at the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism. His research focuses on the adoption of social/digital media and the resulting impact on the work routines of communications professionals.
