Overview of Benefits Programs for Veterans with Disabilities

This presentation provides and overview of the various benefits programs available to Veterans with disabilities. Included in the discussion will be: VA Disability Compensation, VA Disability Pension, Social Security Disability Insurance, and Supplemental Security income. Additionally, information will be provided on VA services available through the One-Stop Centers, and the Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation & Training.
Substance Abuse and Employment of Homeless Veterans

The presentation discusses the prevalence of unemployed homeless Veterans and the co-occurrence of mental health issues including TBI, SUD, and PTSD. Next, strategies and techniques in working with employers and homeless Veterans in helping them find and retain employment are provided. In closing, information about training and motivational techniques for administrators to use when supervising and motivating their employees to assist homeless Veterans find employment are offered.

Overcoming Job Barriers Facing Vets With Criminal Records

This webcast offers an overview of the basic legal strategies available to homeless and other Veterans (and their advocates) to address the criminal records which create obstacles to getting a good job. Aimed at non-lawyers, the web cast discusses 1) Criminal records - terms, types and the problems they produce, 2) The laws in some states which limit employers' use of applicants' criminal records, 3)The legal tools which enable individuals in many states to “erase” a criminal record, and 4) How to locate information and assistance
Given that the laws on this topic vary widely across the country, the webcast will suggest general approaches which can be adapted to the individual's situation and particular state's rules.
