BBI receives $100,000 gift to CHAT program for children with disabilities

Barb and Greg ’91 M.B.A. Tresness have announced a commitment of $100,000 to BBI. The generous donation will fund the creation of Communication Hope through Assistive Technology (CHAT), a program to assist youth with disabilities that affect their verbal communication to open their voices to the world. The Tresness’s son, Graham, is the inspiration behind the gift.


Members and friends contribute $50,000 to Disability Rights Bar Association, hosted by BBI

Members and friends of the Disability Rights Bar Association (DRBA) have matched a $25,000 leadership gift challenge from the National Federation of the Blind (NFB). The $50,000 combined contributions will have a positive impact on the lives of people with disabilities by supporting DRBA activities. DRBA is a virtual network, hosted by BBI, of more than 180 attorneys who specialize in disability civil rights law.


Blanck, Myhill co-author book examining court decisions on disability discrimination topics

University Professor and BBI Chairman Peter Blanck, BBI Director of Legal Research and Writing William Myhill, and civil rights attorney Bruce Goldstein newly released book explores the boundaries of acceptable behavior and legal obligations under disability laws.


McDonald receives NIH grant to study intellectual disability research ethics

Katherine McDonald, associate professor of public health in the Falk College and faculty fellow at BBI, received a grant from the National Institutes of Health’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development. The research project, “Stakeholder Views on Intellectual Disability Research Ethics,” is expected to have significant ethical and public health implications.


Tax Access, a project of the Southeast ADA Center and BBI, featured in NIDRR e-newsletter

The NIDRR-funded Southeast ADA Center offers Tax Access, a website and service in collaboration with BBI and the National Disability Institute. Tax Access offers resources and information for site coordinators and volunteers who provide Volunteer Income Tax Assistance on how to serve their customers with disabilities more effectively.
