Study: People with disabilities sidelined in American politics

The research article, “Sidelined or Mainstreamed? Political Participation and Attitudes of People with Disabilities in the United States,” is authored by Lisa Schur, Rutgers University associate professor, and Meera Adya, Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University director of research. The study, published in Social Science Quarterly, was highlighted in a USA Today article.


Two disability advocates elected to Board of Advisors

BBI has announced the addition of Janice Schacter Lintz and Dr. Michael L. Tumen to its Board of Advisors. Schacter Lintz and Tumen each have a personal connection to BBI’s mission of advancing the civic, economic, and social participation of people with disabilities.


BBI law clerk pursues Ph.D. at Columbia University

BBI congratulates Law Clerk Matthew Saleh, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in Politics & Education at Columbia University. Saleh, an alumnus of SU College of Law and the School of Education, plans to study issues in education finance reform and equality.

BBI co-sponsors session on access to justice for persons with disabilities

The side event on “Access to Justice for Persons with Disabilities: Exploring Challenges and Good Practices” will be held at the Fifth Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.


Start-Up NY/Inclusive Entrepreneurship receives Leonard C. Staisey Memorial Award

Start-Up NY/Inclusive Entrepreneurship, a collaborative project of BBI and partners, has received the Leonard C. Staisey Memorial Award. The award recognizes an organization or group that has made a significant contribution to promoting the rights of people with disabilities, influencing societal attitudes, and increasing progress of the independent living movement.
