The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University is co-sponsoring a conference on “Engaging Marginalized Populations in Post-Conflict Peace Building.” The Feb. 6 conference is hosted by the Ethics, Peace and Global Affairs Program at American University’s School of International Service. The event will bring together thought leaders, policy makers, operational experts, and scholars who work on peace building in conflict-affected countries to foster the engagement of marginalized populations in post-conflict peace building.
BBI is preparing a compilation of resources on engaging marginalized populations in post-conflict peace building. Deepti Samant, BBI director of international research, will present on “Sharing knowledge and resources to advance inclusive post-conflict peace building.”
Responding to a call by practitioners and scholars for a forum in which they are able to connect with and learn from one another, the conference will consider successful strategies for the inclusion of traditionally marginalized groups in peace building. Opportunities for policy makers and practitioners alike to reflect on approaches to inclusive peace building are uncommon. The conference seeks to address this gap and foster networking and sharing of experiences in initiatives designed to promote participation, empowerment and inclusion.
