People Like Me, a documentary about a theater workshop for youth with disabilities, will air at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, on WCNY-TV (Syracuse). Filmmakers Larry Elin ’73, Steve Davis, and Douglas Quin – faculty members at Syracuse University’s S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications – chronicle the history of the All Star C.A.S.T. (Community Actors & Students’ Theater) program for youth with Down syndrome, autism, or physical disability. The program, formerly known as Young Actors Workshop, is a pioneering community theater group where people with disabilities learn acting and other theatrical skills from undergraduates in SU’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.
The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at SU provided financial support for the project, one of BBI’s many initiatives aimed at infusing awareness about disabilities across disciplines.
