We are thrilled to share with you the most recent issue of Syracuse University's alumni magazine, which chronicles SU's longstanding commitment to inclusion and its pioneering work on issues affecting persons with disabilities. Launched six years ago, the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University is building on SU's tradition of excellence in advancing the lives of people with disabilities. As you will see from the four-page feature about BBI, we are engaging SU faculty, staff, and students across disciplines and colleges to create a more inclusive world – a world where everyone is valued.
BBI's partnerships and collaborations already have led to measurable and positive impact in Central New York, across the country, and around the world. In the Syracuse region, for example, the Start-Up NY/Inclusive Entrepreneurship program has assisted more than 60 entrepreneurs with disabilities in launching their own businesses. In Israel, BBI led unprecedented efforts for lifesaving emergency preparedness for Israelis with disabilities.
These extraordinary success stories, among others, would not be possible without the dedication of the more than 60 BBI colleagues. They are passionately committed to a world where the possibilities for people with disabilities are limitless. Educating the next generation of disability advocates is also integral to our mission. More than 100 SU Law, Maxwell, Newhouse, Whitman, iSchool, and other graduate and undergraduate students, serving as research assistants and interns, have been tremendous additions to BBI. BBI is grateful to them for their meaningful contributions.
On behalf of all us at BBI, thank you for your support and commitment. Working together, we will continue to change lives and create new possibilities!
