Southeast TACE sponsors conference about challenges facing people with disabilities in the current economic climate
The Southeast Technical Assistance and Continuing Education (TACE) Center, a project of the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University, is co-sponsoring the 36th Annual TASH Conference, which brings together advocates who are passionate about creating positive change in the lives of individuals with disabilities. Entitled “No Excuses: Creating Opportunities in Challenging Times,” the conference will take place from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3 in Atlanta, Ga.
Conference speakers and participants will discuss the challenges facing people with disabilities given the current economic climate, particularly with regard to employment and state and federal budget cuts. Major themes of discussion will also include community living, diversity, and inclusive education. The full conference schedule and list of topics can be found here.
Southeast TACE is also co-hosting a pre-conference session, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Labor Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services; the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation; the HSC Foundation; and the Georgia Department of Education. This pre-conference, “Employment for Youth in Transition,” will provide an overview of best practices and strategies for the integration of youth with disabilities into the workplace. Those unable to attend in person can “virtually” participate or convene mini-conferences of their own via live streaming. TACE is underwriting the cost of the live streaming and offering free access for southeast state vocational rehabilitation agencies and their partners.
