The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University will host an hour-long session, “The Legacy of Burton Blatt: Advancing the Rights of People with Disabilities – from SU’s Campus to Around the Globe,” during Orange Central 2011. The discussion will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m., BBI offices (321 Crouse-Hinds).
Peter Blanck, University Professor and BBI chairman, will provide an overview of the ways in which BBI’s partnerships and collaborations are building on the work of disability rights scholar and former dean of SU’s School of Education, Burton Blatt. In addition, Matthew Saleh L’11 and Brandon Sawyer L’11 will share their experiences working as BBI law clerks. An important part of BBI’s approach is working across disciplines to educate the next generation of leaders. More than 100 SU law, graduate, and undergraduate students, serving as research assistants and interns, have been tremendous additions to BBI.
The BBI session is one of many in the Orange Central Showcase, which serves to highlight SU students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are reaching out into the community to address a range of issues. More information about Orange Central 2011 can be found here.
