The Money Smart curriculum includes an extensive section on "Accommodating Students with Disabilities."
Seating limited to the first 30 people!
RSVP required by Monday, June 16, 2008.
Time: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Where: South Side Innovation Center, Syracuse, NY 13205
Disability advocates who work as benefits and employment / vocational specialists, adult services consultants, career resource coordinators, program directors, financial educator coordinators, and psychiatric center representatives at local disability advocacy organizations.
Complimentary breakfast and lunch was served; the breakfast was sponsored by Cooperative Federal, "Syracuse's development credit union". The training began promptly at 9 a.m., and concluded at 4 p.m.
The trainers traveled from FDIC's New York Regional Office on Exchange Place in NYC at no cost. FDIC's sole criteria is that a minimum of 15 people register. The agenda encompassed a mixture of group discussions, class exercises, role-playing, introductions, ice-breakers.
Attendees were awarded a Certificate of Completion by the FDIC representatives afterwards. Thirty-five participants became certified to teach FDIC's curriculum, and the consensus of the day is that an imprint was left on Syracuse/Onondaga County. These professionals are now in a position to go out and teach financial education/literacy and asset-building principles in order to help their constituencies achieve economic sustenance and self-sufficiency.
There was a waiting list of approximately 20 people, with one disability advocacy organization requesting a special training. A second workshop is tentatively slated for Fall 2008.
