Job Description

The Burton Blatt Institute: Centers of Innovation on Disability (BBI) of the Syracuse University College of Law seeks a Communication Coordinator.

This new full-time member of the BBI staff will design, implement and coordinate multiple communications activities for BBI on specific projects, including extensively for BBI's Medicaid Infrastructure Grant. This will include writing, editing, media relations, and online and new media outreach.

The Communication Coordinator will prepare and place media releases, produce an annual report, develop and implement online and multimedia issue and fundraising campaigns, and increase on and off campus awareness and investment in the research and "Scholarship in Action" activities of BBI, including for specific grant-funded projects which will change as project requirements vary.

The Communication Coordinator will design, write and edit articles and reports for publication, brochures, conference and meeting documents and materials, outreach and fund development materials, publications, websites and other documents. The Communication Coordinator also will arrange, prepare, and assist with meetings, conferences, and events for outreach, partnership development, and other necessary functions.

Required Qualifications

BA degree in Communications or equivalent experience
Experience in media relations, production of media releases and online and new media outreach
Experience creating interactive new media packages for websites
Experience with social networking platforms and blogging systems
Experience developing outreach, issue, and fundraising materials and campaigns
Commitment to advancement of the social, civic and economic participation of persons with disabilities
Strong collaboration skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Excellent writing ability
Strong attention to details
Excellent verbal communication skills, including in presentations, training, and other settings.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse people.
Effective time management, organization, and planning skills.
Ability to see a project through from start to finish within a set time.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other publication and communication related applications.
Experience using information technologies for real-time communications.
