Gary Shaheen will deliver a keynote address on “Work as a Priority” for People with Disabilities on Sunday, December 16, 2007 in Beit-Dagan, Israel at the First Conference on Competitive Employment for People with Disabilities sponsored by the Keren - Vocational Rehabilitation in Israel.
The honorable Minister of Social Affairs and Social Services - MP Izhak (Buzi) Herzog shall open the First Conference for the Advancement of Competitive Employment of People with Disabilities and Employment Barriers in Israel. This one-day conference, sponsored by the Keren - Vocational Rehabilitation in Israel, will present cutting-edge employment and rehabilitation practices as well as the establishment of “Future Forum” - a coalition of employers, service providers and advocates to promote competitive employment of people with disabilities and employment barriers.
Keren is a public, not-for-profit organization providing vocational evaluation and rehabilitation, technical training and coaching for people of working age with a wide variety of disabilities. Keren serves the entire Israeli public: Jews, Arabs, Druze, and Bedouin; native Israelis and immigrants from all corners of the world. About 9,000 people from tremendously diverse socio-cultural backgrounds are served annually in Keren facilities which include: 16 vocational rehabilitation centers, 3 adjustment-to-work centers, 43 sheltered employment workshops (70% of the nation's total), and 3 Karten Computer-aided Training, Education and Communication Centers.
