In keeping with the goals of the Burton Blatt Institute, this website has been developed to provide a significant number of accessibility features. These features complement the use of assistive technologies and help make the site usable to the broadest possible audience, from those who use assistive technologies to those with a low end browser or computer to those using modern handheld devices.

Standards compliance

This site validates in HTML 4.0 Strict, as well as CSS 2.0. Compliance with WCAG and Section 508 has also been checked and the site found to pass both tests.

Visual Design

This site uses Cascading Style Sheets to control all visual presentation. Turning off the style sheet will affect the visual presentation of the site, but all content will still be readable.

Changing text size

This site’s CSS makes use of relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified ‘text-size’ option in visual browsers.

Links and Images

Many links have title attributes to describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target. Links are written to make sense out of context. All content images include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.

Audio & Video

Audio files on this website have accompanying transcripts available for download and viewing. Video files are captioned and also have downloadable transcripts.
